Our Mission, Vision and Values


Our Mission

Kumbukumbu exists to celebrate, preserve, and share the rich histories and vibrant culture of Black Welsh communities. Through our comprehensive collections and community engagement, we ensure that these important stories are not only remembered but continue to inspire and educate future generations.

THE TEAM

OPHELIA

PROJECT MANAGER

Ophelia Dos Santos is responsible for the Kumbukumbu project. Her role involves managing partnerships, developing projects, and overseeing monitoring and evaluation. Alongside her work at SSAP, Ophelia is a Welsh textile artist and researcher based in Cardiff. Her creative practice explores the relationships between fabric, culture, and community, using textiles as a tool for storytelling, heritage preservation, and climate justice.

SARAH

PROJECT CONSULTANT

Dr Sarah Younan is is a museum engagement professional and consultant for museums, exhibitions and cultural organisations. Passionate about equity and just futures in the creative sector, Younan is currently exploring organisational cultures and staff wellbeing in the time of climate breakdown.

ROBERT

PROJECT OFFICER

Robert Oros is a Cardiff-based cultural producer and artist working across visual and performative arts, heritage, and social change. He’s collaborated with organisations including Amgueddfa Cymru, SHIFT, g39, Chapter Arts Centre, and is currently a SCORE member at tactileBOSCH. At SSAP’s Kumbukumbu, he connects Black Welsh history with today’s cultural landscape, driven by a belief that art can challenge, educate, connect, and reimagine.

DANIEL

EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT

Daniel Trivedy is an artist and educator based in South Wales, of Indian descent. His multidisciplinary practice explores identity, connection, and belonging, alongside a commitment to racial equity. He lectures at Coleg Sir Gar and has been involved in the Arts Council of Wales’ Creative Learning Programme since 2015. He recently completed an MA in Socially Engaged Practice in Museums and Galleries.

HANNAH

PROJECT OFFICER

Hannah Ringane holds an MSc in Inequalities and Social Science from the London School of Economics and a BSc in Human Geography from Cardiff University. With over 5 years in activism and community organising, she has held roles in anti-racism in Cardiff University, and worked with the Co-op Foundation in youth-led grant-making and policy-making/ research. At SSAP, she works as a co-Project Officer for the Kumbukumbu project- making Black Welsh history accessible.

What We Do

Preserve Stories

We collect and preserve personal narratives, oral histories, and community stories that reflect the Black Welsh experience.

Create Resources

We work with educational specialists, teachers, facilitators and artists to create exciting Black Welsh history resources.

Build Community

We foster connections within and beyond Black Welsh communities, creating spaces for dialogue and celebration.
